2014 Canadian Open Wheelchair Bonspiel was again a Great Success
Nov. 19-23, 2014
It was an exciting five days at the Richmond Curling Club from November 19 to 23, 2014, when the 8th Annual International Wheelchair Bonspiel - 2014 Canadian Open Tournament was hosted by the RCD there.
Congratulation to the Winners:
- Gold Medal Winner – Team Russia
- Silver Medal Winner – Team Scotland
- Bronze Medal Winner – Team Canada
- 4th Place – Team BC
On November 20, the Opening Ceremony was spectacular when our Piper led the parade onto the ice. All 10 teams were full of anticipation. There was a huge cheer when Mayor Malcolm Brodie of City of Richmond threw the ceremonious rock to officially open the competition.
This year everything went as planned and we had to give a great Thank You to our new Umpire Patti Caldwell this year, and Bonspiel Organizing Committee Chair Vince Miele and all the Rock Cleaners who volunteered throughout the 5-day event.
The Playoffs on November 23 were beyond exciting. The rivalry for the Gold Medal between Russia and Scotland took them to 7 ends and Russia won by 1 point.
Finally, special thank you to all the members of the Bonspiel Organizing Committee, Ceremony MC Joe Krapeic, Richmond Curling Club Chef Team and all the volunteers.
