From November 15 to 19, 2017 the RCD will be hosting its 11th annual wheelchair curling bonspiel tournament – 2017 Canadian Open. 

RCD Bonspiel Background

Wheelchair curling tournaments have been staged at the Paralympics since the Winter Paralympic Games in 2006 in Turin. The 2014 Winter Paralympics was held in Sochi, Russia from March 7 to 16, 2014.  Canada won the gold medal in wheelchair curling at Sochi, while Russia won the silver and Great Britain the bronze medal.

The 2017 World Wheelchair Curling Championship was held in Gangneung Republic of Korea, from March 4-11. Gold medal went to Team Norway, Silver to Team Russia and Bronze to Team Scotland. As of Mar. 11, 2017, the current Wheelchair World Rankings Top Five is in the order of: Russia, China, Norway, Canada and Scotland/Great Britain.

\We are happy to announce that we have 12 teams registered to compete in the 2017 Bonspiel; they are all of high caliber athletes and including a number of international and national teams. The RCD strives to make this event nationally and internationally acclaimed and hope to attract many audiences and to help bringing wheelchair curling global presence to Richmond.

Format: 5 games of Round Robin; 3 games for Championship & Placement Play-Off
Opening Ceremony: November 15, 2017 at 1 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
Round Robin: November 15 to 17
Play Off: November 18 to 19
Award Presentation: November 19, 2017 at 12 p.m.
