Some ideas of Country and Western attire:

Footwear

  • Leather high top cowboy boots are the most common footwear in both men’s and women’s country western outfits. Women’s boots are often decorated with fringe, stitching, turquoise inlays and metal accents.

Men’s Costumes

  • Men’s country western costumes typically consist of jeans, collared button-down shirts decorated with stitching and belts with intricate buckles.

Headgear

  • A cowboy hat is the traditional form of headdress for any country western outfit. The shape of the hat’s crease is often an indicator of the region that the wearer comes from.

Scarves

  • Country western wear includes a kerchief tied around the neck in a buckaroo scarf knot. Referred to as wild rags, these square-shaped kerchiefs are typically made of silk.

Chaps

  • Country western costumes include leather covers worn over pants, called chaps. Chaps snap onto the pants, leaving only the seat and the crotch of the pants revealed.

Women’s Costumes

  • Women’s country western outfits often include off-the-shoulder dresses embellished with ruffles. The dresses have full skirts and a waist cinched by a belt.

Dressing up for a party with a western theme is an easy task. Key pgarments you will need are probably already hanging in your closet. For accessories, cowboy hats, chaps, neckerchiefs, bolo ties, leather belts and even boots are ready available, with different colors and styles on the racks.

But which pieces do you put together? Here is a breakdown of some looks you may consider.

Ladies:

  • Pair short denim cutoff shirts and a plaid skirt; wear your hair in a well-brushed ponytail; finish it off with a straw cowgirl hat and western-style belt buckle.
  • Pair your denim skinny jeans with a fitted button-front shirt and a fancy jewel-embellished buckle to get that rodeo queen appeal. Take it up a notch by having a lasso and a pair of chaps, which you can wear from the belt downward. Cowboys originally used chaps to protect themselves from sticker bushes and other elements.
  • Go casual with a denim miniskirt or khaki pants. Slip into a tight-fit white shirt accessorized with a black vest and bolo tie. If you want to stand out, style your hair in ringlets and apply red lipstick. You can also wear a red tea neckerchief. Continue the red theme with a pair of boots in that color.
  • Dress up in a prairie skirt that is long, but no floor-length. This way, you can still show off your cowgirl boots.

Gentlemen:

  • Pay homage to sheriffs through a western-style shirt, fringed leather pants and cowboy hat ensemble. For a more contemporary feel, add a leather jacket. But do not forget the key elements: a leather badge, holster and water gun. All three you can easily purchase from a costume or toy store.

Country & Western Live Music Performance
It is exciting that Five-and-a-Half Cowboys Band is performing at the RCD’s Annual Fundraiser – Western Round on October 15, 2011.

2011 GalaThe Five-and-a-Half Cowboys Band is not only local; they are of our own at Richmond. They play Western, Country, Old Timey and Blue Grass music for performance and they will get the dance floor jumping with their live dance music.

Wear you cowboy hat and put on your cowboy boots, come and dance the night away with this energetic acoustic band!

Line Dance Performance and Join-in
Line Dance has always been associated with country western music.

“A line dance is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows without regard for the gender of the individuals, all facing the same direction, and executing the steps at the same time.”

At RCD’s Western Roundup you have the opportunity to follow a group of experienced line dancers and join in the fun of line dancing. It is simple and fun, you will totally enjoy it and dance the night away. We have the honour of having Line Dance Instructor Liz Salikin appearing at the Gala with her students and showing off a few of her signature steps.

This is the time for you to shine on the dance floor!
