
To celebrate the United Nation’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, 2010, the RCD hosted a “Last Rock Reception” at the Richmond Curling Club. The themes of the event were to:
More than 70 guests joined the celebration and enjoyed a wonderful and festive time together. The event started with a Welcome Speech from Mayor Malcolm Brodie, Mayor of the City of Richmond, followed by Mr. John Yap, MLA Richmond Steveston. Mr. Yap was the first person throwing the ceremonious rock at the first Bonspiel in 2007.
Then RCD Board Chair, Mr. Vince Miele, gave a speech on the significance of UN’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities; followed by Mr. Gary Cormack who is the Chair of the Bonspiel Planning Committee. Gary thanked the participation of all the athletes and contribution of Committee Members including Darryl Neighbour, Samantha Siu, Vince Miele, and RCD Staff. Other VIP’s at the reception also included Linda Reid MLA Richmond East; Councillor Bill McNulty and Councillor Ken Johnston, City of Richmond; Megan Tardif, Community Planning & Development Manager, Community Living BC-North Shore /Coast/Richmond.
