From November 20 to 24, 2019 the RCD will be hosting its 13th annual wheelchair curling bonspiel tournament – 2019 Canadian Open.
RCD Bonspiel Background
Wheelchair curling tournaments have been staged at the Paralympics since the Winter Paralympic Games in 2006 in Turin. The 2018 Winter Paralympics was held from March 10 to 17, 2018 in Gangneung, South Korea. Gold medal went to Team China, Silver to Team Norway and Bronze to Team Canada. As of June 2019, the current Wheelchair World Rankings Top Five is in the order of: China, Norway, Korea, Russia, Scotland/Great Britain.
We are happy to announce that we have a record high of 16 teams registered to compete in the 2019 Bonspiel; they are all of high caliber athletes and including a number of international and national teams. The RCD strives to make this event nationally and internationally acclaimed and hope to attract many audiences and to help bringing wheelchair curling global presence to Richmond.
