Youth Group First Cooking Class – Jul 18, 2011

first cooking classThe RCD and Youth Council organized an amazing cooking class for the youth group members on July 18, 2011 at the Garrat Wellness Centre. The 3-hour class was taught and guided by professional Executive Chef Mickey Tse who has tremendous experience in food industry and teaching; he is currently the instructor of “Healthy Cooking” for the Canadian Diabetic Society.

Mickey prepared 3 simple yet healthy recipes for the class; the dishes included a salad with homemade vinaigrette, lasagna and chocolate pudding.

Members were divided into 2 teams, and took on the cooking challenge. Everyone participated to the best of their abilities, and all had a fun and hectic time cooking. They learned many useful cooking tips and techniques, such as how to prepare cream sauce and how to have the best effect in layering the lasagna with different sauces.

Then all sat down for dinner, which was healthy, delicious and most important of all, it was their own cooking. Everyone had more than one serving, and went home tired yet satisfied and happy.
